Our February meeting included a presentation by Randy on Milwaukee Prosperity Tokens which were issued by Walgreens in 1932.  His presentation started with some historical context including current events from 1932 and a short film clip of a South Milwaukee street scene in 1932.  He then gave a short history of Walgreens which started in Chicago in 1901. According to information he got from Walgreens, Walgreens had independent franchises which could have their own sales and promotions.  Randy then showed ads and articles about the 75,000 “Bags of Gold” sent out to Milwaukee area households on Oct. 3, 1932. Each bag contained 14 tokens good for discounts on different products totaling $1.30 per household.  Randy then showed pictures of each token along with period ads for the products featured on the tokens. The promotion ran until October 15, 1932 after which the tokens expired.

Dick said the Boy Scout Merit Badge Clinic was a success.  He brought special patches for each member who had volunteered at the event.

Mark brought in a letter from the Salvation Army thanking the club for manning the red kettle for eight hours in November and raising $213.39.
