Phone Token Presentation
Randy’s presentation on Phone tokens was enlightening. Seems that we all need to
help Randy out now by finding Phone Tokens for him. He especially is interested in
finding one of the devices attached to the phone that accepted these tokens. If you
see a vintage pay phone from 1920 – 1940, be sure to let Randy know.
It is amazing that there was such nefarious behavior by our ancestors that Harry Goetz
had to make a design of a token to solve the problem. It is also interesting that Europe
was using these tokens into the 1980’s to communicate across countries.
Be sure to attend our meetings for these presentations that provide this interesting
knowledge. If you have a topic to discuss or are interested in presenting, let me know.
April Mint News
The American Eagle One Ounce Coin is going to be available in April. They still do not
have a price listed. How odd.
I have to tell you when I stopped at the coin store to get the coins for the door prizes
last month, I was shocked to hear people coming in to buy bars of gold and silver. The
war on Ukraine was still imminent. I am not sure if I would be interested in spending
$5000 for gold to ensure future commerce but it was eye opening.
We will be awarding Raffle prizes at the April Meeting. We will not be having the Pot
Coin, Door Prizes or Trivia Question. It will return in May.
Next Meeting: Wednesday, April 6th, 7:00 PM, Waukesha Salvation Army
meeting room located at 445 Madison Street, 2nd Floor.
Pot Coin: None, Next meeting
Door Prizes: None, Next meeting
Trivia: None. The answer to last month’s Trivia question was: The “Panama Pill”. The 2 ½
Centesimos de Balboa was first struck in 1904. The coin was 10 mm in diameter(.39
inches)
