Thank you to everyone that attended the August meeting.
WWII Coin presentation by Ryan.
The presentation from Ryan was very inspirational. The zinc pennies were produced in
1943 to spare the copper for 50 caliber bullets. Although there were a few left over
copper blanks from 1942 that did get minted in 1943. Do not purchase any 1943 D
mint mark pennies though. It will be a counterfeit. The Nickel was reduced to 35%
silver in 1942. Germany was also changing the metallic composition of their coins
because of the war efforts. They had coins that were made of zinc as well. It was
astounding that they had 7 mints creating coins. How did they keep them staffed? I
would think everyone would have been a soldier. Thanks Ryan for the information.
